Working Bees 2nd Saturday each month - call in between 10am and 4pm

Drop into Danawa to have a look around and help us out with some fun gardening jobs.

Prior to each working bee out garden and building teams will put up jobs to be done on the whiteboard, and we finish off with a cuppa, cake and maybe BBQ (or something from the Community Woodfired Oven).

Bring gloves, sunscreen and a hat just in case, and bring the kids (but please leave your beloved dog at home).  See you at the Garden.

Managing your Garden, with Andrew Laidlaw

Andrew Laidlaw is the gardening expert on Radio 774 Saturday morning talkback, as well as being the landscape architect at the Royal Melbourne Botanic Gardens and running his own successful practice.

Andrew will be at Danawa to launch the Community Garden Summer Training program, helping you to 'Manage your Garden for successful production', and to answer your questions about gardening issues that you may have.

Topics of the talk will include

  • crop rotation,
  • feeding plants and
  • managing garden pests.

A general Q&A session will follow.

Entry will be Gold Coin Donation.

Wood-fired pizzas / other local food will be served.

Danawa Christmas Party

You and your family are invited to celebrate Christmas at the Danawa Community Gardens along with the members from SCEG (Surf Coast Energy Group) on Sun 20th December. Come along and share a great evening with friendly, fun and eco-minded people that all have a genuine passion for sustainability, supporting local businesses, creativity, gardening and home grown goodness.

sCHEDULE:

5.30 Creative corner with Julia - Make Christmas deorations with the kids

6.30-7.00 the Bonnie Upswelling Choir singing Christmas Carols around the CarolVan

6.45 Pot-luck Community Christmas Dinner - BYO and share ours

7.45-8.30 Drumming and dancing with WildMoves

There will also be children’s activities, a wishing tree, and a massive Christmas raffle supported by our good friends at Surfcoast Wholefoods, The Farmers Place, Real Thai Restaurant, and more!

Time: from 5.30pm 

Place: Danawa Community Gardens, Spring Creek Reserve (near Torquay football oval & tennis courts)

 What to Bring:

  • A homegrown/homemade/locally produced salad or dessert

  • Drinks (both alcoholic and non-alcoholic)
  • Your Christmas spirit!

 Turkey, ham and roast potatoes will be provided

 Charity Support:

We also encourage you to bring along a wrapped children's gift (with gender tag on it) or some non-perishable food which Danawa and SCEG will donate to the local food bank/charity.

Garden Art Workshop, Planning Get-together (AGM) and Community meal -

  • Workshop at Danawa Community Garden starting at 3pm to make an arty sign for your plot (materials supplied)
  • Planning session to identify the priorities for the next year & create a big 'Jobs To Do' list on the whiteboard
  • Community meal - chop up some veggies together and let it cook in the oven, or bring something to share
  • And...if its a fine night we might even finish off with a movie!
  • This will comprise our AGM so please do attend and contribute to 'growing' the garden in some way
